Remember when?

September 22, 2008 at 4:53 pm (All Black, Bows, Cate Blanchett, Lace) (, , , , , , )

Remember when everything Cate Blanchett wore was edgy and avant garde? Sure, you debated if you liked the look or not. But it was always interesting and unusual.

Unfortunately Cate has now entered the realm of ho-hum at the Armani fashion week show in Milan. What IS this!? It’s like a bad mother-of-the-bride dress for someone twice her age. Lace? A bow? An a-line skirt? Whaaaaat? All she needs is a wrist corsage and a hankie.

Bring our edgy Cate Blanchett back! Pleeeaassssseeee!

Tooth fairy

September 22, 2008 at 3:55 pm (Headband, Mischa Barton) (, , , , , , )

If the Tooth Fairy and Olivia Newton John and Nefertiti all morphed into one human, I think she’d look like Mischa Barton in this photo.

The Temperley London dress is OK, I guess. The cut is rather shapeless, the look is a little fairy-esque, and the color is a vague not-lavender-but-not-gray-and-certainly-very-iridescent. But I could live with it.

The rest of Mischa’s execution is horrible. The pilgrim shoe, the bright purple “Let’s Get Physical” headband, the horribly stringy hair, and the Queen Nefertiti eyeliner add up to one bad look.

Emmy let down

September 22, 2008 at 10:01 am (All Black, All White, America Ferrara, Christina DeRosa, Clutch, Costume, Draped, Necklace, Ruffles, Shiny) (, , , , , , , , )

We have two examples on the Emmy red carpet don’t list today.

First, America Ferrara normally is on our A list, and she simply faltered this time around. I love her in color with a fitted silhouette. Why she deviated from that magic formula, I’m not sure. But I am real sure that it didn’t look good.

The vintage Werle dress is too voluminous for her, especially with the ruching. The heavy necklace, dark color, and long hair just weighed her down more. We look forward to a better attempt next time, America. Remember that color and fun are your friends!

Christina DeRosa, on the other hand, falters regularly. I think she confuses the red carpet with a Halloween party, and loves to make every look into a costume. If she can show off the girls in the process, even better!

This is just a bad senorita stereotype all around. From the ridiculous fan color to the clutch purse to the tacky platform shoes. Worst off all, the look says cheap, cheap, cheap. Ugh. There aren’t even words.
