Wednesday Addams

October 21, 2008 at 2:29 pm (Backless, Belt, Christina Ricci) (, , , , , , , )

I’m underwhelmed by this Atelier Versace dress on Christina Ricci. It’s just so heavy. And somber. And gloomy. And puckery. And just a teeny bit Halloweeny.

The front bib is almost distractingly ornate, especially in contrast to the bare expanse of back. If the back is supposed to be the wow-effect, why filigree the heck out of the front?

Rockette

October 21, 2008 at 11:06 am (Beaded, Clutch, Elizabeth Banks, Sequins) (, , , , , , )

Elizabeth Banks chose a very tinsel-y, bead-y, glitter-y Rockette Dolce and Gabbana minidress for the premiere of Zach and Miri Make a Porno (which I have absolutely zero desire to see).

I’m not crazy about the dress, but am even less crazy about the fact that she looks twice her age in it. The Jackie O hairdo, the matchy-matchy prom shoes and purse, and the staid accessories mature her way to much.

She channeled way too much Laura Bush and not enough Miri.

Clown pants

October 21, 2008 at 10:30 am (Draped, Maria Menounos, Necklace, Tank, Wide pant) (, , , , , , )

I like the look of a wide pant as much as the next person. It can look very elegant in a Marlene Dietrich, androgynous, exaggerated proportion way.

But Maria Menounos is wearing a *really* wide pant. To the extreme. And I’m not sure it works.

I love the top and the necklace. I even like the jacket. The pants just don’t wow me. Maybe because they are wrinkled. Maybe they are just too drapey. Maybe the waistband looks too casual. Maybe I’d like it with a belt. I dunno. But I’m just not wowed.
