Miu Miu

October 6, 2008 at 2:59 pm (Cardigan, Deep V) (, , , , , , , )

First, I’ll say that I’m not a big fan of Miu Miu. Dunno why. I guess it’s just not my aesthetic.

So it’s no surprise that I’m not loving Kate Bosworth’s outfit here. I don’t mind each individual piece. I just don’t get them all together. It starts with a Mr. Rogers v-neck sweater, topped by a satin cocktail dress, topped by another Mr. Rogers v-neck cardigan.

No doubt the sweaters are the softest cashmere you’ll ever feel. No doubt each piece individually has merit. But all together? I’m not feeling the love.

Skanky flapper

September 16, 2008 at 3:02 pm (Cardigan, Fringe, Metallic, Mischa Barton, Necklace) (, , , , , , )

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. Mischa Barton has resurfaced in London for the Temperley runway show, sporting a black and gold skanky flapper ensemble.

Flapper: finged cardigan, dress adorned with dangling metallic pH test strips
Skanky: mega scoop neck that goes mid-navel
Just plain odd: Native American necklace slug suggestively between her droopy, unsupported boobs

Cindy Lou Who

September 12, 2008 at 5:34 pm (Cardigan, Cindy McCain, Knit, Stripes) (, , , , , )

Cindy McCain is proof positive that spending a lot of money on designer clothes doesn’t necessarily mean you will be stylish.

Although she has previously demonstrated a strong fondess for garish colors (remember turquoise, mustard, and fuchsia?), at least she usually she sticks to one monochromatic garish color at a time.

Earlier this week, she selected an overly festive How the Grinch Stole Christmas color palette. Augment the red and green color scheme with the striped texture to her dress, the knitted and tasseled teapot cozy of a cardigan, and the bright pink wrist cast, and instead of Cindy Lou Hensley from Arizona you have Cindy Lou Who straight from Whoville.

PS Does that make John McCain the Grinch? (Sorry…I just couldn’t resist!)

Ad nauseam

August 29, 2008 at 1:53 pm (Cardigan, Denim, Floral, Katie Holmes, Pleated) (, , , , , )

I am torn between being totally repulsed and totally glued to Katie Holmes watch- NYC 08. On one hand, can’t the girl just go to rehearsals without being photographed ad nauseam? On the other hand, what crazy thing will she do with denim today?

What a quandary– avert our eyes or keep a rapt attention?

I felt the same tension toward the end of the Olympics. Michael Phelps had achieved his mission, I had watched four consecutive nights of beach volleyball, and I don’t really know anything about rhythmic gymnastics. So should I keep watching Bob Costas, or should I actually get off the dang couch and be productive?

My answer to the Olympic question was to keep watching, watching hours of TV watching until I cross-eyed. My answer to the Katie Holmes question is to keep blogging, especially when she wears this Missoni pleated floral shapeless “dress” with a Mr. Rogers cardigan. It’s like gawking at a traffic accident–we just can’t turn away. God help us.

That’ll be the day

July 17, 2008 at 3:04 pm (Cardigan, Denim, Katie Holmes, Tights) (, , , , , )

I have been cracking up all day! Katie Holmes looks like Linda Ronstadt with this hair and make-up. (Sing it with me: That’ll be the day, when Tom makes her cry. That’ll be the day, when he says good-bye.) Is she *trying* to look ten years older? Or like a throwback from 1977?

And what of her baggy, roll-up-your-jeans-like-it’s-1988 look? How did Miss Couture fall so low? And, given her hands in her sleeves posture, she doesn’t look very confident about this look. Posh’d tell her to dump these jeans and cardigan ASAP.

PS The shoes are awesome. Reserving final judgement on the black hose, though.
