Natural death

Why won’t jumpsuits die a natural death? They are universally unflattering, unless you happen to be over 6 feet tall. Kate Walsh’s is particularly unattractive, unless she intended to look like a barrel or the Dalai Lama.

Lethal

November 24, 2008 at 12:09 pm (All Black, Boots, Deep V, Halter, Leather, Leggings, Metallic, Rihanna, Shiny, Strapless, Studded) (, , , , , , )

Rihanna: is this fashion or a deadly weapon? It makes a great AMA stage costume, but I’m honestly a little frightened by it. Very Pamela Anderson/ Barb Wire, Bridgette Nielsen, or “Letha” Stella from Project Runway. And we know how classy they all are.

PS I do not like your hair as of late. Please rethink the short bouffant look!

Weddings or coronations

October 23, 2008 at 3:31 pm (Beaded, Deep V, Elizabeth Banks, Halter, Sheer, Train) (, , , , , , )

I really like the front of Elizabeth Banks’ Kaufman Franco dress for the London premiere of W. It photographed beautifully.

Until I saw this photo. This length of train is only appropriate at a wedding or a coronation. Otherwise, it is unnecessary and excessive. The dress would be just as pretty without the train, or with a reasonably sized one.

Zsa Zsa

October 1, 2008 at 9:59 am (Beaded, Halter, Lingerie, Milla Jovovich, Necklace, Ruffles) (, , , , , , , )

I feel like Milla Jovovich was inspired by a Zsa Zsa Gabor ruffled peignoir set. All she needs are some marabou slippers and a Pomeranian dog.

The dress is OK, even though no one larger than an A-cup could wear it tastefully.  I just don’t think the dress *goes* with the necklace. And it is a Bulgari event. The necklace is the star. Build your outfit around it.

I love the detail on the bodice, but it almost competes with the necklace. This is necklace can stand up to strong color, bold style and sleek silhouettes. I don’t think flesh-toned-pink and ruffles do the necklace justice.

Fish tank

September 26, 2008 at 11:50 am (Deep V, Halter, Rihanna) (, , , , , , )

I think Rihanna’s style is amazing. She may not have much cash in the bank (relative to her star status), but she knows how to choose the cream of the designer crop.

I don’t think this Gucci halter dress makes the cut. It looks like a fish tank, with fluorescent fake plastic ferns swaying along the bottom and little bubbles floating up. All we need is a glug, glug, glug noise to make our fish tank look complete.

Undecided

July 25, 2008 at 3:01 pm (Amy Adams, Halter, High Waisted, Jumpsuit) (, , , , , )

We have to make decisions every day. Obama or McCain? Paper or Plastic? Gas or Electric?

In the big picture, perhaps this decision isn’t very important. But I can’t decide if I like Amy Adams’ outfit or not. At first I kinda liked it. I still don’t hate it. But I was surprised to see–egads–it’s pants.

It makes sense as a maxi-dress. I am not sure I am feeling the wide-leg culottes. And my stance against jumpsuits is well-documented. So, perhaps on jumpsuit priniciple alone I should say this outfit is bad. A girl ain’t worth much if she doesn’t have her principles.
