A little lesson in editing

May 14, 2008 at 7:25 pm (Beret, Beyonce, Necklace, Plaid) ()

This is a wonderful reminder of Fashion Editing 101. There is nothing totally wrong about the skirt. Or the blouse. Or the jacket. Or the necklaces. Or the tights. Or the purse. Or the hat. Or the earrings. Wait, I take that back. The earrings are a bit yucky. But you get the point. Each of these pieces, or even three of these pieces, could work. But the whole package is too much. Even for Beyonce, who can pull off extravagance very well.

And why would she go for such an overstated outfit, and then spend ZERO time on her make up (except for bright pink lip gloss) and hair?

Sinking Ship

May 13, 2008 at 8:15 pm (Bows, Plaid, Salma Hayek, Suits) ()

Salma Hayek is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful women in the world. Voluptous, sensous, exotic.

Why, oh why, then, is she dressed like a librarian? I know she recently had a baby, but really? Pleats and plaid? That’s a crying shame. The sheer blouse, camisole, gargantuan bow, low lapels, and high waisted skirt are waaaay much, even in her ample chest region.

I think I’d like it better if suit were a solid. Or even a more subtle print. But all the lines of the plaid are enough to make me sea sick.
