Really? Really, Jessica Alba?

You want us to buy cropped satin pajamas as high fashion? They may be Dolce and Gabbana, but it looks more like the House of Hef. All you need are velvet slippers and a post coitus cigarette.

Politics in fashion

September 25, 2008 at 10:33 am (Kristina Apgar, Necklace, Polka Dots, Ruffles, T-Shirt, Tank) (, , , , , , )

Memo to Kristina Apgar:

A.) Not really sure who you are.
B.) Agree with your political choice.
C.) Strenuously object to your fashion choices.

It’s hard to be fashionable and political at the same time. If you insist on political apparel, I say try a simple fitted tee with some rockin’ jeans (a la Halle Berry, telling us to Barack the vote) and be done.

Do *not* attack a t-shirt with scissors to make a shapless tank, throw on a Minnie Mouse ruffled polka dot skirt, and add pumps and pearls. Barack deserves better than that. You certainly aren’t winning him any votes!

Dots a go-go

September 18, 2008 at 2:41 pm (Agyness Deyn, Cut-outs, Hat, Polka Dots, Sheer) (, , , , , , )

Is Agyness Deyn starring in a maxi pad commercial? Why else would someone sport so many dots?

I will begin by saying that designer Henry Holland ain’t my cup of tea. So I probably wasn’t going to like anything shown or worn at this London runway show.

I guess, unless I morph into a Cyndi-Lauper-meets-Wham-circa-1982, it’s a good thing that I don’t like the House of Holland.

Paris fashion week

July 2, 2008 at 11:49 am (Asymmetrical, Draped, Liv Tyler, Polka Dots) (, , , , )

Paris fashion week is so fun. New York may have taken over as the center of the modern fashion world, but  Paris is still tops in terms of overall chicness per capita. Plus, they’ve got croissants.

Liv Tyler looked fab-u-lous yesterday in John Galliano. Unfortunately, she appeared today in this Givenchy confusion. There are parts that I really like, but the totality is too much of a jumbled mess. Let’s look at the scorecard.

– Knot at the neckline
– Bodice
– Graphic material
– Shoes

– Single sleeve (at a minimum, it is too long. I think I’d like the look overall if the single sleeve was completely gone)
– Skirt draping (I like the asymmetry, but am not completely sold on the papoose draping look)
– Hair and makeup (It looks a little like she overslept for school and quickly pulled her hair back. And doesn’t she look a lot like Alanis Morissette?)

On two levels

June 19, 2008 at 3:35 pm (Kate Moss, Polka Dots, Sheer, Thong) (, )

This Kate Moss ensemble is bad on two levels. First, it really isn’t very cute. Reminds me of a maxi pad box.

But, more importantly, it is completely inappropriate. It is completely sheer (the red polka dots were added–for the sake of censors–by me), and she is blatantly not wearing anything underneath. A questionable decision in LA or London. But she is in Istanbul– a predominately Muslim country. That isn’t just poor taste. It’s unpardonable. At least she wore a black thong.
