Props

I guess you gotta give Diane Kruger some props for trying. She tries very hard. And she is usually soooo close.

But, as they say, close only counts in horseshoes.  Certainly not in fashion.

The Roberto Cavallichain link dress seems a little frumpy figure skater. And I don’t get the fur shrug with dress. Put it on a tailored Dita von Teese or Victoria Beckham look and I get it. But with an edgy dress and trash sack booties? Nuh-uh.

Something nice

December 10, 2008 at 11:04 am (Bows, Buttons, Diane Kruger, High Waisted, Jumpsuit, Tuxedo) (, , , , , , )

Mama always said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” So here goes something nice: “I like Diane Kruger’s shoes.”

Shit, that’s no fun. I mean, look at her Chanel outfit. And her enthusiastic facial expression. I’d have that look, too, if I looked four years old in a jumpsuit featuring bow tie and satin high-waisted pants.

Furry armadillo

December 5, 2008 at 12:42 pm (All Black, Diane Kruger, Sweater) (, , , , , )

Diane Kruger’s Chanel dress seems to be inspired by a furry armadillo. Who will settle for nothing less than total world domination.

I think sweater dresses in general are challenging to pull off. The bulk. The distracting texture. Why, then, would you pile on capped sleeves, a ribbed bodice, a strange halter detail on the chest, a turtleneck, cuffs and a gathered waist?

Panama Jack

July 15, 2008 at 9:46 am (Clutch, Diane Kruger, Hat, High Waisted, Tank) (, , , , )

Diane Kruger looks like she is ready for a remake of Romancing the Stone, rather than a stylish soiree. Most of the guests at Longchamp’s 60th anniversary party were wearing chic cocktail dresses. Ms. Kruger strolled in with this get-up instead.

I don’t get this look. Honestly, I can’t even figure out what kind of look she is going for here. Does she want beachy-eighties-retro? Havana-flashdance-mega pants? If you can figure it out, you are a lot smarter than me…

Flapper falls flat

May 24, 2008 at 3:00 am (Costume, Diane Kruger, Sequins) ()

There is a huge difference between being inspired by a look and taking the look to far. Usually, that is the difference between looking good and looking bad.

Granted, this dress isn’t great. The shapeless bodice, fish tail and bland beige-gray color aren’t easy to wear.

But add the slicked-down pin-curl hairdo and we move into the realm of costume.
